Day 5 - "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." -Samuel Johnson
LondonThursday, June 9, 2011
After a sleepless night in London, back to the big bus we went. We are starting to get acclimated to the city and spent most of the day walking around.
Highlights:
- We remembered our rain gear!
- Ate breakfast in Notting Hill at the Cafe Diana
- Explored Trafalgar square in search of Diagon's Alley, we're still looking. In Trafalgar square, note the ship in a bottle, pretty awesome! The square also has the countdown clock for the official opening of the 2012 Olympic Games, awaiting Melinda.
- Visited the Parliament House, we sat in on both the meetings of the Lords and the Commons. Very interesting!
Look kids it's Big Ben!
- Westminster Abbey (finally got a good picture)
- Strolled the courtyard and gardens of Buckingham Palace.
- While in the park that we renamed "hit in the face by a bike" park, aka Hyde Park, we were overcome by a group of gypsy kids that Conor said we would find in Italy. Kelly ran for her life clutching her purse like it was a life preserver. I remained calm.
- Witnessed a robbery (possibly two) outside of a fancy restaurant in Knightsbridge(remember this area is faaancy). Kelly and I have very different ideas of what happened. I thought it was one robbery, Kelly thought it was two, either way one culprit got wrestled in the street and then taken away. Quite a splendid production (that's a British accent if you were wondering).
- Lastly, dinner with the amazing cousin Megan and Johnny. Malaysian food, amazing! The best thing to do on your trip to London is to let Johnny order your food for you. Megan and Johnny, you guys are lifesavers, we could never ever thank you enough!
Farewell London, we will miss you!
Day 6 - Misses
Brussels, AmsterdamFriday, June 10, 2011
Missed train. Missed Brussels, except for a couple hours in the train station. Made it to Amsterdam.
Today's Lowlights:
- Missed train
- Kelly lost her shoes
- Malia lost her hoodie
- Camera lost it's cords and charger
- Had to buy new coats because we didn't check the weTher before we left ( it's cold!)
Day 7 - Amsterdam: The Vegas Of Europe
AmsterdamSaturday, June 11, 2011
Rita Rudner says this about Vegas, we just entered the word Amsterdam, "Everyone in Amsterdam seems like they lost their luggage at the airport." Also, Amsterdam is full of stag and hen parties. For all of you non-european readers, that means bachelor and bachellorette parties.
Highlights from the day:
- We stayed on the red light district, wow!
- Best sign, "smoking allowed, no tobacco."
- Amsterdam is known for it's many canals, which we experienced via boat tour ( Kelly slept, Malia experienced.)
Riijksmuseum
Amsterdam Central Station
I thought I ordered Mac&Cheese?
Note the size of the people standing next to this truck, it was parked next to bikes.
Amsterdam has parking garages for bikes, not cars
Amsterdam it was fun meeting you, but we wont be sad to make it to Munich and stay in a real hotel.
Off to catch our overnight train. Next post from Munich.
